About Sound Therapy

Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is a type of sound therapy that involves passing pure low frequency soundwave vibrations into the body via a device with embedded speakers. This therapy was developed in Norway by Olave Skille in the 1980s. The Food and Drug Administration has approved vibroacoustic therapy for increasing circulation, pain relief, and increasing mobility. Vibroacoustic therapy is being evaluated to treat a number of conditions like fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Transducers in the lounger transmit deep resonate vibrations to the body and therapeutic music is composed of binaural beats and healing sound frequencies that help activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the body’s relaxation center).

This activation leads to a decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension, allowing your body to enter a state of deep relaxation. As your body relaxes, stress hormones decrease, and feel-good endorphins increase, promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

The effectiveness of vibroacoustic therapy lies in its ability to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. Research has shown that sound and vibration can affect our autonomic nervous system, which regulates various bodily functions. By targeting specific frequencies, vibroacoustic therapy can induce relaxation, reduce muscle tension and pain, increase blood and lymph flow, and improve overall circulation.

When it comes to mental health, vibroacoustic therapy has shown promise in reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The soothing vibrations and calming music create a serene environment that promotes relaxation and tranquility. This can help individuals experiencing these mental health conditions find relief and experience a greater sense of well-being.

FAQ

What should I expect in a session?

A typical vibroacoustic therapy session may last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your needs and preferences. The session will take place in a calm and soothing environment, designed to promote relaxation. You will relax on a vibroacoustic lounger designed to transmit vibrations through your body and put on headphones to get the benefits of the music and beneficial healing frequencies.

As the therapy progresses, you may notice a deep sense of relaxation washing over you. Some individuals even describe feeling a sense of weightlessness or a gentle massage-like sensation as the vibrations envelop their body. During the session, it’s common to enter a meditative state or experience a heightened sense of awareness allowing for a deeper mind-body connection.

As the session comes to an end, the therapist will gradually reduce the intensity of the vibrations, gently bringing you back to a state of wakefulness. You can feel free to end the session at any time if you choose. After sitting up be sure to take a couple minutes to re-acclimate before standing, to avoid dizziness.

It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing. We provide a lightweight cover and eye mask to make your session cozy and comfortable.
